Three clutches of babies were hatched this past summer (2004).

I had four birds that seemed to pair up and start showing mating behavior. So I decided to put three nesting boxes up in the cage (one for each pair plus one extra one).  It ended up that our yellow male, "Two", decided to mate with two females at the same time!  I ended up removing Dott, Janette, and Bob from the main cage where the nesting boxes were placed.  To my surpise, most eggs were fertile!

Here is Keeters and Blueberry's first clutch!

Blueberry has been an egg layer since she was about a year old.  Many eggs were infertile, but she laid them even she was alone in a cage. When I brought Keeters home, they immediately bonded. She had a few clutches of infertile eggs, but they finally got it right!  Five babies were born in total, one of the babies was adopted out. We kept the remaining four.

Two and Larry's clutch

This was Larry and Two's first clutch. They seemed to get it right immediately!  It amazes me that of all three chicks, not one has any yellow coloring on them!

Two and One's clutch

As you can see, Two was a busy male!  This was their first clutch also. One is a very docile budgie with the best temperment of all the birds. She is an excellent mother! Two would go back and forth between nesting boxes helping the hens with the chicks. He looked very tired at the end of the day!

Some cute pics of moms and babies

What a miracle to witness the whole process of eggs to babies!  I loved watching the parents feed the babies, to hold such small miracles in my hands and watch them grow!  It truely was an experience of a lifetime for me!
